Standards we use
Content description
LORN members are required to use a protocol to describe the characteristics of their learning materials.
The standard protocol adopted by LORN is called VETADATA - the (VET) system’s
official metadata profile. All LORN repositories are required to apply the VETADATA

Metadata harvesting
'Harvesting' in LORN refers to the process of transferring content from
repository service providers (RSPs) to a central storage point, the federated search
provider (FSP). It also involves the process of gathering, indexing and storing object's
metadata in a central repository.
LORN follows the industry standard OAI-PMH
(Open Archive Initiative – Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) version 2.0 for
its harvesting activities
